Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

One of the few major zoo and aquarium combinations in America, this 77-acre facility features thousands of animals in such habitats as "The Asian Forest," "African Savanna" and "Cheetah Valley." Open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.

PNC Park & the Pittsburgh Pirates

Just a few minutes walk from The Priory Hotel is what is widely considered to be the best place to watch a baseball game in major leagues. Check out the Battling Buccos and an amazing view of the city from every seat. From April to September.

Point State Park  
CATEGORY: Outdoor Park | LOCATION: Downtown Pittsburgh

Point State Park, located at the confluence of three rivers, is at the tip of Pittsburgh's "Golden Triangle." It commemorates and preserves the strategic and historic heritage of the area during the French and Indian War (1754 - 1763).

Once a busy industrial area, the area had deteriorated into a commercial slum by the 1940s. The development of a state park was authorized in 1945 and the first parcel of the 36-acre property was purchased in 1946. The park was completed and dedicated in 1974. It is now one of the nation's outstanding historical parks and tourist attractions and has been designated as a National Historic Landmark.

Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area

Created by Congress in 1996, the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area is committed to preserving, interpreting, and managing the historic, cultural, and natural resources related to Big Steel and its related industries. Encompassing over 5,000 square miles in the eight counties of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Greene, Fayette, Washington, and Westmoreland, Rivers of Steel is building on this area's remarkable transition from heavy industry to high technology and diversified services as well as bolstering the new regional economy by promoting tourism and economic development based on this region's historic industrial saga.

A multifaceted program, the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area's mission includes: historic preservation, cultural conservation, education, recreation and resource development. Currently, the Heritage Area has bills in Congress to create the Homestead Works National Park. The proposed park would be located on 38 acres surrounding the Carrie Furnaces, the last of the giant blast furnaces from the Homestead Works, and the Pump House, site of the bloody 1892 Homestead Steel Strike.
