The German American Chamber of Commerce is hosting a dinner celebrating Spargel, which is a delicacy from Germany. Spargel is white asparagus, which is carefully cultivated underground so that it receives no sunlight and thus has has no chlorophyll, resulting in a very light texture and white color. Each May, during the harvest, towns in Germany host spargel celebrations, pairing traditional German dishes with the rare white vegetable.
The menu features a wide variety of spargel appetizers, cream of spargel soup, and your choice of a schnitzel or tilapia entrée. There's also German cakes and chocolate covered spargel for dessert! Riesling and gewurztraminer will be paired with the soup and salad and entrée courses. There will also be entertainment and a cash bar. This event is the first of its kind in Pittsburgh!German American Chamber of Commerce Spargel Dinner Link
