Host: Nick Biondi, Majestic Wines & Spirits

Please RSVP to Gene Lucente at gene@thepriory.com.

Thursday, September 25, 2014

September 25, 2014 (Note: this is the fourth Thursday of the month)

Host: Deb Mortillaro, Dreadnought Wines

Theme: Explore the Cape of Fine Wines

South Africa has a wine making tradition dating back to 1659, when the vineyards in Constantia near Cape Town first produced its wares. The Mediterranean-type climate produces some fabulous grapes, as we'll explore with the ever knowledgeable and passionate Deb Mortillaro. This tasting features three wines from the AA Badenhorst family winery located in the Swartland appellation of South Africa. Founders and cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst are descendants of farmers from Constantia, and restored a 1930's era winery to its former glory to produce these world class wines.

Priory October (Al Fresco - Hopefully!) Wine Tasting
Thursday, October 16, 2014

October 16, 2014

Host: Joe Barsotti, Barsotti Wines

Theme: Callie Cutting Edge

As oenophiles know, California offers many more wine growing areas than Napa and Sonoma, and that there's a crop of new and edge-pushing winemakers emerging on a consistent basis. October's tasting features wines which are a little removed from the beaten Napa path, but each with its own story and style. You can sip the Cambridge & Sunset "Clippings" blend, the product of a winery started by two Aussie ex pats in Novato, California (located between Napa and the Pacific Ocean), which was created to celebrate the end of a day of yard work. Or try the rules breaking X Winery Big Gun Red, which boldly blends four different red grapes into one mighty wine.

Wines to be Tasted: Cambridge and Sunset "The Clippings" White Blend 2012; Formation Pinot Noir 2011; Zinsane Zinfandel 2012; Big Gun Red Blend 2012       Entertainment: Meredith Holliday

As always, weather permitting the wine tasting will take place in our garden courtyard. Wines are accompanied by heavy hors d'oeuvres created by our executive chefs Pete Phillipy and Mike Henney, along with a display of imported cheeses and fruit. Price is $60 per person.
